Between the two of us, Ellie and I have edited Christian fiction novels, articles, blogposts, curriculum and short stories. We are happy to take books that don’t have a Christian theme. However, because we are Christians, not all books are going to fit our editing style.
- We prefer not to have a lot of cursing in the books we edit.
- We would rather not edit books with sex scenes in them.
- If the message of your book strongly conflicts with our worldview, then we probably won’t take on your story for editing.
We want you to be able to make the right decision about whether we are the best company to edit your book. After all, you have put a ton of work into your story, and you want an editor that is right for your book. This is one reason why we request the first 2500 words of your manuscript before we make a contract with you, and why we talk with you on the phone to get an idea of what your story is.
If you believe we are a great fit for your editing needs, then please fill out the contact form so that we can get this process started.
Here’s a little information about who we are personally:
Carol Robb and Ellie Robb are mom and daughter who both have a passion for making good stories great.
We’ve always loved stories.
Growing up, I (Carol) almost always had a book by my side. The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings became my favorite books in high school. As an adult, reading a great fantasy or a Christian mystery story out on the porch or wrapped up in a blanket on the couch, with a cup of tea (or maybe some chocolate), is probably still one of my favorite things to do.
As Ellie grew up, our family spent hours reading aloud from great stories that captured our hearts. Many nights, we stayed up way past their bedtimes because we just didn’t want to put down the story; they would beg my husband or me to keep reading!
Ellie’s love of reading developed into a love of writing. She attended Christian writing workshops in the summers, which encouraged her to fall even more in love with story. Even now, what does she do when her close friend comes over to visit? They talk about their stories and hash out with each other how to make them flow with engaging plots and enticing characters.
When I (Carol) attended college (many years ago), I thought I was a great writer. However, my pride was crushed when I received a C in my Composition 101 class. I was horrified. I had never received a C in any class before that. So, I went on to take an advanced writing class in my junior year.
That semester I had 32 papers to write (including the papers required for two other classes). I’m not sure how I got through the semester, but I received an A for the class. However, the best moment was when my writing professor told me I was the most improved writer she had ever taught. (Hmmm, that means I was really, really, bad at the beginning). But I focused on the compliment, and it gave me a confidence boost that has carried me through for these many years.
Why do I tell you this? Because what that professor did for me is what Ellie and I would love to do for you. Not that you are a bad writer, like I was. However, it’s amazing how helpful it is to have someone read through your story and point out those plot holes or character blah’s that you are too close to see or too attached to because you spent hours writing about that character, and then guide you in how to turn your manuscript into a fantastic novel.
We hope that you will join with us on the journey of editing your book to be the best it can be!
